Fairy Tales and War

Physical vs. Spiritual
1. What is physical?
            A. Existing in a form that you can touch or see. Of or relating to matter and energy; temporal
            B. Pertaining to nature or natural productions or to material things.
            C. Perceptible to the 5 senses: taste, touch, sight, hearing, smell. A sense is a physiological capacity of organisms that provides data for perception.

2. What is spiritual?

            A. Not tangible or material; not temporal
            B. Mental; intellectual
            C. Supernatural
            D. Consisting of spirit whether of this world or out
            E. Pertaining to the renewed nature of man
            F. Pertaining to divine things

Terrestrial- pertaining to the earth and existing on the earth; the world or present state.

Celestial- heavenly; dwelling in heaven. Belonging to the upper regions or visible heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:40

3. Examples of Physical vs. Spiritual

            A. Everything made in this world (physical) proclaims God (spiritual).
                        *Psalm 148

            B.  Old testament is a physical picture and the New testament is spiritual.

*Israel is the earthy (physical) people and the church is the spiritual people.
                        * God would do physical things to Israel: Isaiah 54:7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; Jeremiah 3:8 God gave Israel a bill of divorcement;
Isaiah 54:4 Israel's widowhood. But He would never leave them spiritually.
*Romans 15:4   For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might                             have hope. 1 Corinthians 10:5-11
*Hebrews 9   The feasts, priests garments, tabernacle/temple, sacrifices, etc. were a picture.
*Physical prosperity in the old testament was a picture of the spiritual prosperity now.

            C.   Physical (Flesh) vs. Spiritual
                        * Salvation is spiritual. God does the saving- not people.
Ephesians 2:8,9   We try to add physical things to be saved such as good deeds, baptism, or a prayer.
*The Body is physical but the resurrection is spiritual.
1 Corinthians 15:42-49  ....It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The                          first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit...

            D. Letting the Holy Spirit guide our lives is living spiritual. Old nature (physical) vs. new nature (spiritual).
                        * Galatians 5: 16-25
                        *  physical sanctification vs. spiritual sanctification

            E. Law vs. Grace
*Even though the law itself is spiritual (Romans 7:14), righteousness is not of the law. Righteousness is by grace through faith. Ephesians 2:8,9
*Allegory of the Bond and Free   Galatians 4:22-31   v.29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is                   now.

4. Scripture examples of Physical vs. Spiritual
            * Jesus is the only begotten son because of his resurrection and because of His physical birth. Begotten in resurrection is spiritual; it is not begotten from a                            physical birth.
            Acts 13:32-34; Romans 1:1-4
Physical example: the dead came out of graves after the resurrection. That is a physical picture of what Jesus did spiritually.

*We are justified to God by spiritual but we are justified to man by works (physical).
James 2:14  What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

*1 Corinthians 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

*James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

             * God won't forgive trespasses if you don't forgive. Spiritual is forgiven for the believer but there are consequences for the physical.
Matthew 6:14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father               forgive your trespasses.

            * All things are clean to those that are spiritual because we are living above the physical creation of what God set forth as sin.   1 Corinthians 8: 4-13
