Perspective
To get a right perspective of what the world is and how it is laid out, we have to look at the world the way it is and not the way we want it to be. We are spirits/souls in physical bodies. There exists unseen spiritual presence even though this world is physical. The physical is obvious: animals kill one another to survive, there is birth and death, we eat, drink, get sick, sleep, etc… Things are tangible and perceived by our 5 senses. Our exterior flesh wants to feel good. It doesn't want to be too cold or hot, it doesn't want to be hungry (it actually wants to over eat), it wants sex, it wants no pain, and it wants to feel good at any cost. Then we have an internal, fleshly carnal self. It wants to fulfill intrinsic desires like passion, pride, selfishness, and greed.
At the same time of this physical world there is also a spiritual one, and we are in a spiritual war. We have a body, soul and spirit. When we become a born again believer, our spirit is then ready to receive spiritual things- the things of God. Our spirit wars against the flesh and the flesh wars against the spirit. God made this world unique in that the only way that we can overcome the flesh is by the Spirit, the Holy Spirit living inside of the saved person.
A truth and perspective that we need to have is that your body is not your own. God made you to serve. If you're not a born-again child of God, you're serving Satan. If you are a born-again child of God, you are bought with a price and you are God's servant. So why do you think that you should get what you want in this world? If you are a servant, your life is not your own. That is a fairy tale and immaturity. God calls us to maturity. The world is about God- not people and things (Revelation 4:11). Yes, people play a vital part in the spiritual war and in this physical earth, but we don't have the predominate roles. The war is against good and evil, satan/demons vs. angels, etc. People have a lesser role. We lose our perspective and believe that people are the most important things in the world. They are not. God and His plan is what is most important. We must understand Who God is and What is the meaning of life.
We need the right perspective on life. Even though the world is a hard, hard place, we are extremely blessed to be here and to be part of God's great plan. We get to live by faith which is something that the angels don't get to do. We get to glorify and magnify the Lord's name by our faith and through our endurance of the physical body in this physical world. Life is but a vapor. After the world is over, the results from the opportunity that we've had in this life will last an eternity.
